Oil painting, "Reflections of a Cloudy Day"

"Reflections of a Cloudy Day"
Oil on canvas
9 x 9 inches
Sides are painted and gallery wrapped
$40. shipping $10.
Good Morning,
In the midst of errands and other work, I was able to take a few hours at the easel today and create this little painting. I have a couple of books by Wolf Kahn and I particularly like the way he paints trees. He is also a master with color. When I was in Montauk earlier this year, I had the opportunity to visit some galleries that featured his original paintings. They were wonderful.
The books are also good reading for anyone who is interested in what he has to say. Wolf Kahn's America" features his observations about many of the places that he painted. I found it interesting.
Until next time,
Glynis

Oil painting, "Bluebells #2"

"Buebells #2"
Oil on canvas
Sides are painted and gallery wrapped.
9 x 12 inches
$50. Shipping $10.
Good Morning,
Another day at the easel. I was happy to be indoors today as it was brutally hot out there.
I've been working with the bluebell images again. The bluebell fields were beautiful, yet painting them is difficult. I struggled with them before and still seem to have a hard time with it. I have a lot of pictures of this brief event, so there is plenty to work with.
I found some minor success with this piece. Hopefully I'll be successful with a larger painting as well.
Until tomorrow,
Glynis

I spent most of last week painting. I was working on a large piece (32 x 36). You will see it here at some point, but I'm not ready to show it yet.
This painting is the second of the two rose paintings I did recently. The other is posted below. You will see a lot of similairity and a lot of differences. Both were fun.. The purchase link is below.
This week will be filled with painting and hopefully some interesting projects.
Until tomorrow,

Oil Painting, "Apricots"

"Apricots"
Good Morning!
This week has been a typical summer week for me. I didn't get to paint with the sketch club on Tuesday because I was having some work done on the house. Finally, I got to paint yesterday with my friend, Becky. The painting is unfinished and I'm not showing it.
There are people who can show unfinished work and it always looks great. I am not one of those people. When my work is in progress, it's not something that looks very good. I go through many changes about it and usually scrape it off a time or two before it begins to look alright.
I'll finish this painting today and if it's not on the scrap heap, I'll show it to you tomorrow.
Meanwhile, please enjoy the painting of Apricots.
Untill tomorrow,
Glynis

Oil painting, "Low Tide" (revisited)

Good Morning!

I've finally finished it! (Bet you thought I wasn't painting). The "Low Tide" painting had some problems as you saw in the last post. I think I now have it worked out, and here's the finished painting.

Over the long weekend, I spent a lot of time working on seascapes. As I have said before, landscapes (and seascapes) are difficult for me. This weekend, I'm taking a workshop on landscapes with Sara Linda Poly. I like her work and am told she is a good teacher. I'll do an intensive two days and perhaps my landscape issues will dissolve away! Personally I think painting about a thousand more landscapes would solve a lot of problems, but the workshop will help, anyway.

Good News! My painting "Red Daisies" was accepted into a juried show at the League of Reston Artists. This small painting is one of my own favorites. I'm glad to see that someone else liked it, too! The show runs June 2-30 at the Lake Anne Community Center, Reston, VA. If you're in the neighborhood, stop by and check it out!

Meanwhile, the measurements for "Low Tide" are 22 x 26 inches and the painting is on my website: http://www.glynisberger.com/ . Be sure to check out my website for other new paintings. I have quite a few new paintings posted.

Right now, I have company for the week, so I'm blogging whenever I get a few minutes. I may not get much painting done, but will show the results of the workshop anyway. Hopefully I'll have time to post something tomorrow.
Until next time,
Glynis

Oil painting, Daffodils, Revisited

Good Morning!

Yes, you have seen this painting before. I donated it to the Greyhound Angel Network and it is being auctioned this week. GAN pays medical bills for greyhounds that cannot afford. Winslow and I believe in helping these causes. As you know, Winslow lost a leg to osteosarcoma last year. I hope you will bid on this painting or something else. It's a good cause.
(The auction is over and the Daffodils have a lovely new home!)
Winslow also paints. No, it's not a typo. He is the painting greyhound. He doesn't sell his paintings, but donates them to GAN. Last year, Winslow's paintings made over 1200. for Greyhound causes! We are very proud of his abilities and his charitable attitude! All of Winslow's paintings come with photographs of him painting that painting. You can see Winslow creating a painting AND bid on the painting during this auction:
http://www.2houndsdesign.com/cgi-bin/2hounds.pl?category=GBA
For more information about Winslow, you can visit his diary:
http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php?showtopic=169522

When I checked the auction, Winslow's painting was far ahead of mine in bids. Go figure.
I'm done with the soapbox. Tomorrow, it's back to work.
Enjoy the auction!

"Driveby #7, House on the Hill"
Oil on canvas
8 x 11 Inches
Sides are painted and gallery wrapped
$50.
shipping $10.

Good Morning!

I'm back from a relaxing vacation! We went to Montauk, NY, Winslow's favorite place to go to the beach. He loves the cold weather, and we get a chance to relax, visit friends and spend a week just roaming around, reading, painting, riding horses and napping.

I was able to paint quite a bit and photograph a lot for future paintings.
I'll show some of those paintings in the near future. I have other news as well.
For now, I'm exhausted after a 7 hour ride, so here's a painting I did before I left last week.
Enjoy,
Until tomorrow,

Good Morning!
I have been working with glass. The reflections and distortions are amazing. Sometimes difficult (this was), always interesting. You will probably see more paintings that include glass on this blog. Hopefully they will get easier (and better).
Enjoy!

Oil painting "Tangled up in Blue

"Tangled up in Blue"
Oil on canvas
24 x 34 Inches
Sides painted and gallery wrapped
Good Morning!
Recently I have been working on some larger paintings. I love these paintings because they give me a different direction and refresh my view.
As you know, I have two websites. http://www.de-yong.com/ is devoted to abstract and experimental work. I usually put my figures on that site as well. I consider them to be experimental. It just seems sensible to keep them separated from my other work. This painting will be featured there. Later today, I'll post a purchase link to it.
Enjoy,
Glynis

Oil painting-"Blue Jar"

"Blue Jar"
Oil on linen
10 x 12 inches
Sides are painted
$50.
Shipping $10
Good Morning!
I have been interested in shadows lately. This blue jar casts a very interesting and colorful shadow. It was really a lot of fun to paint and try to capture the colors inside it.
Obviously the camera didn't capture the colors that are there in the jar and shadow. It still turned out pretty well for a study.
Until tomorrow,
Glynis

Oil Painting, "Matisse's Teapot"

"Matisse's Teapot"
Oil on canvas
12 x 16 Inches
Sides painted and gallery wrapped
$60.
Shipping $10.
Good Morning!
After a few days off, it seems that Blogger has corrected itself. I was finally able to upload this painting. I found this teapot very interesting and will probably include it in future still life paintings. It reminded me of something Matisse would design.
I have been on spring break, taking time off to visit historic Williamsburg. It was quite interesting and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in history. A road trip is always good for creativity.
Now I'm refreshed and back to work.
Enjoy!

Good Morning!
Yesterday, I was going through some of my old paintings. In the interest of being "green", I often recycle canvas and stretchers. Once in awhile, I find a surprise. Yesterday, it was a forgotten painting from last year.

Good Morning,
I was painting with friends yesterday and this is the result of my work. A painting with a lot of blue and grey tones. Oddly, it's the second time in a week I have painted the studio scene. If you are interested in seeing the other painting, it's featured on my website: http://www.glynisberger.com/

Oil Painting on Canvas- "Small Dune"

"Small Dune"
Oil on Canvas
11 x 14 Inches
Sides painted and gallery wrapped
SOLD
Good Morning!
It's spring and once again, my thoughts turn to Montauk. I go there every spring with the intention to paint. It rarely works out that way. Spring in Montauk is cold and windy, but beautiful. It lends itself more to photography than pleinair painting.
Winslow loves the beach and the cold weather, so it's a good vacation for him. I always have a good time, regardless of weather.
I have a larger painting of this dune from a different angle. You can view it on my website: http://www.glynisberger.com/ It's called "Dune" (go figure).
Enjoy,
Glynis
PS. Happy Birthday, Nancy.

Oil on Canvas

11 x 14 Inches
$40.
Shipping $10
Good Morning,
It's Monday and daylight savings is creating havoc for my house. It always takes awhile to get used to it. I have enough trouble keeping up, so I'm not really pleased about losing an hour.
Last week, I was painting with friends. Jennifer remarked that she thought my driveby series would have more blur to them. I thought they were blurred, but she said that she would like to see more. I guess I wasn't driving fast enough. It sounded like a good idea to me, so here's the first with some "acceleration".
Thanks, Jennifer... This one's for you.
Enjoy,
Glynis

Oil Painting-"Driveby #4"

"Driveby #4"
Oil on Canvas
8 x 10 Inches
$35.
Shipping $10.
Good Morning!
Another of the Driveby series, this small canvas features a hill, just outside of Upperville, VA. I spent some time going back and forth last fall when the leaves were changing. The colors were amazing. I'm beginning to enjoy painting these small landscapes.
It's been unseasonably warm here. The bulbs are coming up and other things are sprounting in the flowerbeds. I'm off to find my outdoor easel and get ready for spring. I always look forward to painting outdoors.
Enjoy,
Glynis

Oil painting- "Sushi, I Want Sushi!"

"Sushi, I Want Sushi!"
Oil on canvas
11 x 14 inches
Sides painted and gallery wrapped
This painting has been donated to the GPA ORLANDO auction, to help GREYHOUNDS IN NEED.
Good Morning!
I just couldn't resist the title. Sometime I'll have to do an oil painting of Cyndi Lauper.
This little painting of sushi was fun because I've been painting in the kitchen and the lighting and shadows are different. It's good to have a change. I'll be back in the studio by week's end and painting on my new easel.
Until tomorrow,
Enjoy,
Glynis

Daily painting-"Not Quite Ripe"

"Not Quite Ripe"
Oil on canvas
12 x 16 Inches
Sides are painted and gallery wrapped
$50.
Shipping $10

Good Morning!

I'm really looking forward to warmer weather and riper fruit. Now is the time when the plums, peaches and other fruits look so good and taste awful. I have to admit, they do make good subjects for painting.

Today, I'm painting with friends and it's my turn to set up a still life for us to paint from. I've been working on it since last night. It's not easy and most of the time mine never end up as they began. It's always a challenge.

Oil Painting-"Driveby #3"

"Driveby #3"
Oil on Canvas
11 x 14 inches
Sides painted and gallery wrapped
$40.
Shipping $10.
Good Morning!
First, an apology for missing Monday morning. I took the weekend off to paint a larger painting and on the blog calendar it translated to Sunday and Monday. I'll know for next time.
If you would like to view my larger painting, it is available at http://www.de-yong.com/ The title is "Bitter Morning".
The small painting above is another in the Driveby Series. Many of my driveby paintings are (or will be) of the Middleburg, VA area. (I drive through that area weekly when I take Winslow for his swim. Now that he cannot run, he swims at the Animal Swim Center.) It's a beautiful country drive, no matter what season.
Enjoy,
Glynis
