Oil painting, "Crooked Window"

Good Morning!

I spent the entire week and weekend catching up on things from our vacation. I was only able to complete one painting. It's on my website: http://www.glynisberger.com/ The name of the new painting is "Down to the Lake".

The auction is still on, so you still have time to bid on either my painting, or Winslow's. Looks like he's making some money for the hounds! I'm so proud of him.

This painting is one that I did while in Montauk. The image was based upon the fantastic old windows in the Burwell Morgan Mill where I volunteered at a recent art show. The building was fabulous and I was able to take some photos .

During the art show at the Mill in October, my friend Becky and I will be painting on site. I'm sure it will be a lot of fun.

This painting "Crooked Window" is also featured on my website. Here's a purchase link.

Until tomorrow,
Glynis

Oil Painting "Driveby #7, House on the Hill"

"Driveby #7, House on the Hill"
Oil on canvas
8 x 11 Inches
Sides are painted and gallery wrapped
$50.
shipping $10.

Good Morning!

I'm back from a relaxing vacation! We went to Montauk, NY, Winslow's favorite place to go to the beach. He loves the cold weather, and we get a chance to relax, visit friends and spend a week just roaming around, reading, painting, riding horses and napping.

I was able to paint quite a bit and photograph a lot for future paintings.
I'll show some of those paintings in the near future. I have other news as well.
For now, I'm exhausted after a 7 hour ride, so here's a painting I did before I left last week.
Enjoy,
Until tomorrow,

Good Morning!
First, apologies for the disappearing act. Things got a little out of control around here. Errands, houseguest and I've been working on some larger paintings again. But, I'm back and here's a new driveby painting. I was coming home from Pennsylvania one evening when I saw this yellow piece of sky. It was fascinating.
Today, I'm volunteering at the mill in Millville, VA. I have work in the show and will be spending the afternoon there. If you are in the area, drop in. It's a good show, an interesting place and a lovely drive in the country. If you don't get there today, be sure and come on the weekend and check it out. You won't be disappointed.
Until tomorrow,
Glynis

Oil painting-"Watson"

Good Morning!

I asked Olivia if she would permit me to share her portrait and she agreed. This is a painting of her dog "Watson". I think she did a fantastic job and Watson likes it, too.

I went out with Ute today, to paint. The weather was beautiful and once we started walking in the fields of bluebells, we just kept going. No painting, but I did take enough photos to do a painting or two. It was just too nice to stand still. Exploration is always good and I can use the exercise. It was a good hike in a beautiful forest. Thanks, Ute!

I hope to have a painting to show tomorrow.
Until then, please enjoy this wonderful painting of Watson.

Oil painting on canvas, "Red Daisies"

"Red Daisies"
Oil on canvas
8 x 10 inches
SOLD
Good Morning!
We planned to paint outside today, but the weather didn't work out. It was overcast and cold, making pleinair painting less than fun. Jen set up a still life and we stayed indoors. I painted an abstract that can be seen on http://www.de-yong.com/ I should have it up later today, so check it out if you can.
Later, I painted these red daisies, thinking of sunnier days.
Enjoy,
Glynis
This painting is being exhibited at the League of Reston Artists Juried Show in Reston VA.
It is not currently for sale on the blog (but is for sale there). Please contact me if you have any questions.

Oil Painting- "Symbols of Spring"

"Symbols of Spring"
Oil on canvas
12 x 12 Inches
Sides painted and gallery wrapped
$60.
Shipping 10.
Good Morning!
Since we set the clocks forward, I've been noticing the long afternoon shadows. I like the heavy, dark shadows that are cast by the late afternoon light. I find beauty in them while they are so difficult to catch before they disappear. The afternoon sun beams into my studio. Once in awhile I get lucky enough to have a still life catch that perfect light and hold it long enough for me to paint it.
Yesterday was one of those rare moments.
Enjoy,
Glynis

Good Morning,
It's Monday and daylight savings is creating havoc for my house. It always takes awhile to get used to it. I have enough trouble keeping up, so I'm not really pleased about losing an hour.
Last week, I was painting with friends. Jennifer remarked that she thought my driveby series would have more blur to them. I thought they were blurred, but she said that she would like to see more. I guess I wasn't driving fast enough. It sounded like a good idea to me, so here's the first with some "acceleration".
Thanks, Jennifer... This one's for you.
Enjoy,
Glynis

Oil Painting-"Driveby #4"

"Driveby #4"
Oil on Canvas
8 x 10 Inches
$35.
Shipping $10.
Good Morning!
Another of the Driveby series, this small canvas features a hill, just outside of Upperville, VA. I spent some time going back and forth last fall when the leaves were changing. The colors were amazing. I'm beginning to enjoy painting these small landscapes.
It's been unseasonably warm here. The bulbs are coming up and other things are sprounting in the flowerbeds. I'm off to find my outdoor easel and get ready for spring. I always look forward to painting outdoors.
Enjoy,
Glynis

Oil painting- "Sushi, I Want Sushi!"

"Sushi, I Want Sushi!"
Oil on canvas
11 x 14 inches
Sides painted and gallery wrapped
This painting has been donated to the GPA ORLANDO auction, to help GREYHOUNDS IN NEED.
Good Morning!
I just couldn't resist the title. Sometime I'll have to do an oil painting of Cyndi Lauper.
This little painting of sushi was fun because I've been painting in the kitchen and the lighting and shadows are different. It's good to have a change. I'll be back in the studio by week's end and painting on my new easel.
Until tomorrow,
Enjoy,
Glynis

"Not Quite Ripe"
Oil on canvas
12 x 16 Inches
Sides are painted and gallery wrapped
$50.
Shipping $10

Good Morning!

I'm really looking forward to warmer weather and riper fruit. Now is the time when the plums, peaches and other fruits look so good and taste awful. I have to admit, they do make good subjects for painting.

Today, I'm painting with friends and it's my turn to set up a still life for us to paint from. I've been working on it since last night. It's not easy and most of the time mine never end up as they began. It's always a challenge.

Good Morning!
First, an apology for missing Monday morning. I took the weekend off to paint a larger painting and on the blog calendar it translated to Sunday and Monday. I'll know for next time.
If you would like to view my larger painting, it is available at http://www.de-yong.com/ The title is "Bitter Morning".
The small painting above is another in the Driveby Series. Many of my driveby paintings are (or will be) of the Middleburg, VA area. (I drive through that area weekly when I take Winslow for his swim. Now that he cannot run, he swims at the Animal Swim Center.) It's a beautiful country drive, no matter what season.
Enjoy,
Glynis

Good Morning!
Well, here I am with 4 in a row! I got off to a rocky start this morning. Ice storms cancelled my plans for earlier. I went to paint and found my easel was about to fall apart. But another cup of coffee and some gaff tape and the day was salvaged.
I have an old friend who is a fabulous potter. I use her dishes often This morning when I was pondering the repair of my easel, I thought her coffee cup would be a good subject. I must admit, 8 x 10 is very small for me and feels crowded. But here it is. Enjoy.
On a technical note, there is a button on the sidebar of this blog that says "CALL ME".. If you feel the need to contact me this way, go ahead. It's free, but you have to UNCHECK THE BOX THAT SAYS "keep my number private" and give me a name and number.
( I might even answer, who knows!)
Ahhh. Technology!
Until tomorrow,
Glynis

Oil Painting-"Spanish Pots"

"Spanish Pots"
Oil on Canvas
9 x 11 Inches
Sides painted and gallery wrapped.

I was out painting with 2 friends today. We get together weekly for painting and lunch. Today, the still life was a composition including these pots. I have painted them before and find them quite interesting. The other painting is on my website: http://www.glynisberger.com/ The title is Green Apples. This small study turned out well enough to share here on the blog.
If anyone is keeping score, that is a painting a day, for 3 days in a row. I may even earn the coveted title of "Daily Painter" yet!
Enjoy,
Glynis

Daily oil painting-"The Bushy Thing"

"The Bushy Thing"
Oil on Canvas
11 x 14 Inches
Sides are painted and gallery wrapped
$40.
Shipping $10
Good Morning!
I'm on a roll today. 2 days, 2 paintings! I don't know how long I can keep the pace, but I'm trying.
Here's a brief history of this painting: My family is from Arizona. My grandmother was a painter of the southwest. She painted deserts and rocks in a way that people loved. Her paintings were quite popular and today are valuable items of art. When she got old and couldn't get around, I sometimes took photographs for her to paint from. When I went to visit her, I took the camera and we went out on photo excursions. This gave her plenty to work from and I got to see the desert that I hadn't explored as a child.
When my grandmother died, the photos made their way back to me. Once in awhile, I get one out that she didn't get a chance to paint from and I do it. Our styles are different, but she played a major role in my art education. She also knew the name of every desert plant. The Bushy Thing was growing along the Colorado River, near Needles CA. If anyone knows what it's called, drop me a line!
Enjoy,
Glynis

Oil Painting-"Driveby #2"

Driveby#2
Oil on Canvas
11 x 14 inches
Sides are painted and gallery wrapped
This painting is not for sale at this time.
Good Afternoon!
Yes, I got a good night's sleep, got up early and got to work. It felt good to paint after being away from it for awhile.
Today's painting is the 2nd in a (hopefully large) series that I am working on. I've been preparing this series for about a year. The first painting can be seen on my website, http://www.glynisberger.com/.
Often, while driving, I've seen things that I say I would like to photograph or paint or both. Promising myself that I'll stop "next time" because I'm too busy, I go right by. I began taking a camera with me and photographing as I drive by interesting things without stopping. Landscapes, buildings, whatever. Now, I'm painting from these photos, blurs and all.
I hope this will be a continuing series of growth and discovery, much like Diebenkorn's Ocean Park series. I'm crazy about that series. I've been fortunate to see 4 of them "in person". He was an amazing painter.
BTW: There is a Diebenkorn show in NYC right now. I copied this from an article in the NY Times:

“Diebenkorn in New Mexico” is on view through April 5 at the Grey Art Gallery, New York University, 100 Washington Square East, at Waverly Place, Greenwich Village; (212) 998-6780, nyu.edu/greyart.
I hope you will go if you get a chance. He was a fabulous painter. One of my favorites.
Until tomorrow,
Glynis

Pet Portraits-Gone to the Dogs.

" Winslow"

Glynis Berger
18 x 20 inches
NFS

The above painting is my dog, Winslow. He's a retired racing greyhound. A little over a year ago, he lost a hind leg to cancer. 13 months later, he's beating all the odds. He's healthy and happy. On Saturday, we celebrated his 8th birthday with friends and cake. Winslow loves a good party and he had a lot of fun. The people had a good time, as well. I've painted Winslow 3 times, the above is most recent.

"Winslow"
Ute Gil
NFS
I paint weekly with a group of my friends. For Winslow's birthday, my friend, Ute Gil gave me the painting above. It's small, yet beautiful. I think this painting captures a side of Winslow that I can see, but find elusive to paint or photograph. If you would like to check out Ute's other paintings, go to http://www.utegil.com/ or to Boundless Gallery (http://www.boundlessgallery.com/). This is truly one of my (very few) cherished possessions.

Ute and I both take commissions for pet portraits.

Now, with children gone and parties over, perhaps I can move on and pursue that goal of "a painting a day"!
Until tomorrow,

Glynis

Good Afternoon,
This is my second entry today. The offering is a painting from granddaughter... the artist known as DKH. She does a good job arranging flowers and thought she should paint the arrangement. I, of course, agreed. I'm very agreeable when little hands are busy.
Not to be outdone, this entry could not wait, so here it is.

Daily oil painting "Doris"

"Doris"
12 x 16 inches
Oil on canvas
Sides are painted and gallery wrapped.
$50.
Shipping $10.
Obviously, I spent some time at a koi pond. I found the fish (and the pond) to be colorful, ever moving and Doris was not the least bit shy. Although photographed in summer, I enjoyed painting this on a dreary winter afternoon. It brightened up my day... hopefully it will do the same for you.

I recently submitted paintings to a European group who wanted measurements in "cm. only". So, I had to find a metric conversion calculator. Yes, I could have done it myself, but I'm lazy and not mathematically inclined. It worked so well that I've added it to my blog! Check it out! If you ever need a metric conversion, from inches to centimeters, just stop on by! It's at the bottom. Enjoy!
